Stress Management by Yoga

Yoga

Dating back over 5000 years, yoga is considered by many to be the oldest defined practice of self-development. The methods of Classical Yoga/ Hatha Yoga include physical postures, breathing control and meditation. Traditionally an Eastern practice, it is now becoming popular in the West as well. In fact, many companies, are seeing the benefit of yoga, recognizing that relaxed workers are healthier and more creative.

Many studies have found that a little yoga in the morning, evening, or even during a lunch break, can minimize stress and increase productivity. It is believed that Yoga is so effective for stress relief because, apart from the physical benefits that yoga brings, it encourages a good mood, an increase in mindfulness and a healthy dose of self-compassion.

Stress is a conscious and/or subconscious psychological feeling or physical situation which comes as a result of physical or mental positive or negative pressure to overwhelm adaptive capacities.

In today’s world everyone suffers from anxiety from time to time, but when this mild anxiety starts becoming chronic, it takes a tremendous toll on the body and mind, draining all the energy resources and keeping the body in constant state of stress. The effects of stress are magnified when the body is not regularly exercised, tension in muscles builds, breathing remain constricted most of the times and the mind is in constant whirling thoughts and feelings which is caused by stress.

Yoga (Asanas, Pranayamas, Meditation) helps you to access the inner strength that helps you to face the fears, anger, frustrations, and challenges of everyday life. A small daily routine of exercise (Asanas), breathing exercise (Pranayama), and Meditation will help in coping up with the stress at the body, breath and mind level. A few Yogasanas, if practiced daily will help you to reduce stiffness and tension from the large group of muscles and thus helps in practice of Pranayama (breathing exercises) followed by the practice of Meditation. The practice of asanas will help the parts of the body and brain with fresh blood, oxygen and other nutrients, and thus increases the feeling of Well- Being.
